Our Humble Beginnings
Spray ‘n Coat Painting traces its roots back to May of 1980, when Mark’s dad, Rod, started M&R Painting. Growing up in Montana, Rod learned the value of hard work early on, and when he moved his family to Idaho in 1984, he brought those values—and his painting skills—with him. With homemade scaffolding and the help of his wife, Marcella, Rod took on everything from nearly 40-foot-tall barns to local homes for anyone who needed his services.
Rod and Marcella were both raised on farms, where they were taught that “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” That ethic carried over into their life as young parents. By 1986, with three little ones at home, Rod kept busy providing for his growing family. If you’ve met Mark, you know feeding him back then was no small task!
Rod painted through the ’80s and early ’90s before following his lifelong calling into full-time Christian ministry. By then, he had already laid a solid foundation of craftsmanship and work ethic for the next generation.
The Next Generation
A decade later, as Mark was finishing high school in Pocatello, Rod passed along some of his painting expertise. What started as a summer job—painting homes alongside his dad—turned into a means of independence. Mark painted houses during his summers to pay for college at Idaho State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. By the time he graduated, Mark had painted close to 50 homes under the name M&R Painting, managing to finish school without a penny of student debt.
In 2009, Mark married his college sweetheart. But as the recession hit hard, his employer closed its doors, and Mark suddenly found himself without work. With a new family to provide for, he turned back to what he knew best—painting. That’s when Spray ‘n Coat Painting was born in Boise. With no advertising budget, Mark did what any scrappy entrepreneur would do: he knocked on doors, introducing himself to neighbors and offering his services.
Building a business from the ground up wasn’t easy, but Mark’s dedication to quality and customer service soon paid off. By 2012, Spray ‘n Coat Painting was painting more than 100 homes a year, and the company has grown steadily since then.
Celebrating a Decade of Growth
In 2019, Spray ‘n Coat Painting marked its 10th anniversary with a celebration to remember. Employees and their families gathered for a big parking-lot-style party filled with good food, fun games, and lots of laughs. The event wasn’t just about celebrating a milestone—it was a chance to reflect on how far we’d come as a company.
Mark’s dad, Rod, was there to join in the festivities, along with Mark’s family, who have been a big part of the journey from day one. It was a humbling and joyous occasion to see so many people who’ve contributed to Spray ‘n Coat Painting’s success, and it reminded us that no matter how much we grow, our foundation will always be built on family, community, and gratitude.
A New Chapter in Nampa
March of 2022 brought another exciting milestone: Spray ‘n Coat Painting moved into our very own building in Nampa. This new space houses our office and showroom, creating a central hub where we can better serve our customers across the Treasure Valley.
The move wasn’t just about having more room—it represented years of hard work, growth, and the unwavering trust our customers place in us. Every square foot of this space reminds us of our humble beginnings and the relationships we’ve built along the way. We’re proud to call Nampa home and look forward to welcoming you into our showroom to see what Spray ‘n Coat Painting can do for you.

At Spray ‘n Coat Painting, we’re as committed as ever to delivering high-quality workmanship and outstanding customer service. To do that, we take the time upfront to discuss the customers’ goals for their projects and strategize how we can best meet those goals and hopefully surpass their expectations.
While we began with residential painting, we’ve grown to also serve commercial and industrial customers, providing expert interior and exterior painting, as well as durable concrete floor coating solutions.
We don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to painting, but instead, we recognize that there are dozens of different types of surfaces that we paint along with different environments and demands. This requires that we be highly educated and well-versed in the dozens of different available products to best meet each specific painting need. As we assess your needs and develop a customized proposal for you, we hope to educate you through the process so that you can make educated decisions about maintaining and beautifying your property.
