EXTERIOR & KITCHEN CABINETS

A Tale of Two Projects

After 14 years Ellyn Hoffman was tired of her kitchen cabinets. With peeling melamine on the cabinet doors and a layout that just wasn’t ideal, she decided it was time to update. She called her cabinet contractor, Matt Acord, who elongated her upper cabinets to give more space and make Ellyn finally feel like she had an “adult kitchen,” as she described it.

That cabinet contractor recommended that she call Spray ‘n Coat to discuss refinishing the existing cabinets.

“Him telling me to call Spray N’ Coat was the best decision ever,” she says.

Instead of getting a whole new set of cabinets, which can become very costly, she kept her original cabinet boxes and had Spray ‘n Coat order new doors and drawers.

By replacing the old curved raised panel door with a modern shaker style door, and adding new hardware and hinges, SNC was able to give the kitchen an entirely new feel and appearance. And utilizing a premium 4-coat lacquer refinishing system, SNC was able to deliver a custom finish that performs better than even a factory-finished cabinet.

The process requires relinquishing the kitchen for a few days, but in the end Ellyn says it is incredibly worth it and was surprisingly low hassle.

"My kitchen and dining room was enclosed in a plastic bubble so that dust would not creep all over the house. The place looked like a war zone, with cabinet doors drying on a big metal line, drop clothes covering things, and paper and plastic was taped down to protect granite, appliances, floors, windows etc. But when I came back at the end of the project the place was IMMACULATE! My new cabinet doors and drawers were painted, dried, with hardware on. My floors were clean, and everything was ready for me to put my kitchen and dining room back to normal. I was shocked! I stood there and giggled and was so excited that I didn’t have to do a massive clean up after their job, and I could return to normal with a whole new updated look!"

When asked about the difference between working with Spray ‘n Coat and other contractors over the years, Ellyn said, “They communicated very clearly what to expect, and answered all my questions in a very timely manner. The process they have in place is very efficient and I love good communication, But I really appreciated that they do what they say, and say what they do. The Quality is the best I have seen!”

And Ellyn was bold enough to attempt two painting projects; she also had the exterior of her home painted. This one created some tough color decisions. Even though she is decorator/stager for a builder of new homes, she says the decisions in choosing colors and decorating your own home are always the hardest.

She says she wanted to be daring in her color choices, but also wanted her husband to be on board with her choice. Once she narrowed down the shade, she began to get color samples of things she liked… and then, “Bam! My Color! It was called ‘Salvaged,’ and I fell in love!”

Her front door she kept black with Sherwin Williams “Tricorn Black”, and then chose Benjamin Moore “White Dove” for her trim. Spray ‘n Coat has great relationships with all of the local paint stores, and is able to piece together color selections of any paint brands.

“I wanted the whole house to be one base color instead of breaking it up and adding a 4th color. I am so pleased; trust me I second guessed myself many times in the process but once it was all done I was thrilled!”

After two painting projects, inside and out, Ellyn says she would describe her Spray ‘n Coat experience with three words:

“Efficient, Immaculate, & Quality.”
